Each of these 3 pictures is making a comment on how media report different issues. Choose ONE of the pictures and explain what you think the picture is trying to say. If someone else has already chosen the same picture make sure you reply to their explanation.
The second picture says the media only shows the good parts of the country even though there are lots of bad things going on about their country.
ReplyDeleteGood Josephine, you are on the right track but you need to have a closer look. Start by looking up "subjugating" in the dictionary. Then look at the two sides of the picture- one is the war front (which country is this in?) and the other side is the home front (which country is that one in?) - what weapons are being used on both sides?

DeleteMaybe it means the media is controlling the world

ReplyDeleteSecond picture has a picture that uSA attacked Iraq but other picture is USA people says peace by media. So I think media is a kind of secret weapon for the country that cover things that they did.

DeleteAgain a very good start Jun. Now look up the word "subjugating" and see what is the other difference between the left, in Iraq, and the right, in the USA. On the left they use weapons to 'subjugate' the people of Iraq. What do they use on the right hand side?

DeleteAnd media is kind of weapon that force people to do it even they don't like it.
DeleteI think the second picture is trying to say that USA in their country they spread to the world that they want peace using media but actually behind that peaceful talks it is USA that fight Iraq.
ReplyDeleteThese are good ideas Harry but actually the people on the right hand side of the picture in America look a bit scared as well. Look up the word 'subjugating' and then have a another try.
DeleteI think the second says how people get "pressed" with weapons example:Syria...
ReplyDeleteYou are right Magnus. Away from America in the "warfront" the people get pressed by weapons. And now what do the people in America get "pressed" by?
DeleteIn the first picture it shows how people can make up a story so easily from guessing, the person who wrote this probably knows nothing about this truly unless they followed each person and recorded what really happened. This also shows how bad racism can be, it shows how some people guess the worst from a black person. For all we know the white people could have stolen it but the black person found it.
ReplyDeleteGood response Indah - you are right, the media have chosen words which show definite bias against the black person who is made out to be a thief. Do you think that there may be a lot of racial bias in the media?
DeleteYeah, I agree with both of you.
DeleteAlice, I am glad you agree but what are you agreeing with exactly? Try and give an example of what you like about Indah's comment rather than just agreeing :)
DeleteI think the left side of the picture represents that US Military uses strong weapons to control and attack Iraq but the right side of the picture is about US showing that they want a peaceful world & no war, by using different kinds of media. So the picture is showing that the real actions and actions using media, are different.
ReplyDeleteIt's about the second picture.
DeleteVery good response Jenny. Now look carefully at the right hand side of the picture again. Do the people look happy and peaceful? What are they afraid of?
DeleteNo they don't look happy and peaceful. I think they are afraid of wars.
DeleteWhat are their signs saying? And what kind of weapons are threatening them on the right hand side?
DeleteThe signs are showing that they want peace. On the right hand side of the picture, different kinds of media are threatening them.
DeleteMedia only shows the good things about their country even though there are lot of bad things about it.
ReplyDeleteGood thinking Cindy - but I don't think on either side of the picture that the people look happy. Can you look up the words "subjugating" and "propaganda" and tell me what they mean. Then we will look at the picture again.
DeleteMs. Katrina, isn't the first picture cut off?
ReplyDeleteBut I do believe in the first picture it is showing how the media can be so biased (in this case racially) even in a crisis like so.
The second picture shows how the media only reports how the ones they are biased for are wanting peace for themselves (in this case USA) while in fact their country is attacking other countries, yet this remains silent.
Also lastly, from what I understand the last one is showing how people demand objectivity in their media but always get biased information and the media don't care what they want. Because the second man just says, "The Usual..." Showing that this happens a lot and has yet to be resolved.
I know I was only supposed to state my opinion on what one picture is trying to show but while I was trying to pick my mind started trying to find what they meant so...
while I was trying to pick, my mind started trying to find what they meant*
DeleteForgot a comma, didn't seem to make sense without it.
They really should have an edit system.
Azim, firstly I am very happy that you decided to do all three as you show a good understanding and good thinking about the issues in each one. I like your interpretation of all three, in particular the second photo but I want you to look a little deeper. In fact, the people in America want peace, but what are the media doing to them?
DeleteIn the third picture, it seems that the 'bloggers' are protesting against the mainstream media. Do you know what a blogger is? (hint: you are one by using this website). Now, from the media's response to the protest, what can we say about each side?
Third picture: It shows that the media WANTS to be biased but the viewers of the media; the people below, don't want the media to be biased and want the story to be seen objectively.
ReplyDeleteYou are right that the people below are protesting because they believe the media should be objective. What else do they want? They have a few more signs there. Who are those people below anyway? They are not just viewers of the media, but they create it. Can you work out what type of media they create?
Deletethe second picture has a picture that the USA attacked Iraq, but the other picture is USA people says peace by the media. I think media is a secret weapon for the country that cover things they did
ReplyDeleteThis is a good analysis of the picture Amierul. Do you think the weapons on the left and the media equipment on the right both look pretty dangerous or similar? Why do you think the cartoonist drew them like that?
DeleteThe second picture shows how the media controls everything. Like on the second parts they have a lot of cameras and gear to make the people protesting feel nervous and want to back down from saying their opinion. The media control them. Also in the first part of the picture.
ReplyDeleteYes, you are right Alice. On the right hand side the people are scared of the media even though all they want is peace. Good analysis.
